How Are We Doing?
Our Services

Electrophysiology Services

bullet Electrocardiography

We provide comprehensive evaluation of pediatric electrocardiograms, both in the office and by facsimile from hospitals and other pediatricians' offices.

bulletHolter Monitoring

Holter monitoring provides 24-hour recordings of cardiac activity to detect and plan treatment of arrhythmia abnormalities.

bulletEvent Monitoring

This type of monitoring provides evaluation of arrhythmia abnormalities over a 30-day period of time.  This testing allows for assessment of heart rhythm during symptomatic periods.  Data from the recorder is sent by telephone to our office in Virginia, where our physicians interpret the recording.

bulletPacemaker Clinic

This clinic is provided for patients who have implanted pacemakers.  Pacemaker status is determined and transtelephonic pacemaker evaluations are performed.

Echocardiography Services

bulletEchocardiography

One of the most useful tools for our cardiologists is the use of echocardiography, or sound wave pictures of the heart.  This allows the physician to examine structures of the heart and identify any abnormalities. We provide two-dimensional, M-mode, color flow and spectral Doppler ultrasound as part of this service.

bulletFetal/Prenatal Echocardiography

This test allows the cardiologist to examine any major structural abnormalities and arrhythmias that may be present in utero.  In order to obtain the best study, this test should be performed after the 18th week of pregnancy.

Exercise Physiology Services

bulletMetabolic Exercise Testing/Metabolic Exercise Assessment

An exercise test helps the cardiologist find out how well the child's heart, lungs and muscles work during exercise.  The test can also show if there is a lack of blood flow to the heart as the child does work, and helps the cardiologist know the kind and level of activity that's right for the patient.

bullet Sports Medicine Evaluation/Exercise Prescription

Children undergo a metabolic exercise test to evaluate maximal work capacity and anaerobic threshold.  This information is used by our exercise physiologist to  provide a detailed exercise prescription relative to the recreational or competitive athletic participation and training that we perform.

bulletCardiac Rehabilitation

Children with congenital heart disease undergo metabolic exercise testing and are given comprehensive guidelines for a safe and effective exercise program.  The program is updated as the patient grows and the disease progresses.

bulletPreventive Cardiology/Patient Education

Our staff provides comprehensive evaluation of primary risk factors for coronary artery disease, including lipid disorders (high cholesterol), high blood pressure, physical inactivity, and obesity.  Once a risk factor is detected, patients and their families are given detailed information about life-style modifications aimed at reducing the risk for heart disease later in life.

Invasive Cardiology Services

bulletInvasive Cardiology

Our physicians perform cardiac catheterization for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, including catheter therapy for narrow valvular and vessel lesions, coil and balloon occlusion of anomalous vessels, and cardiac biopsy.

Home Care Services

bulletHome Care

We coordinate with home-care programs to provide home nursing services for patients with complex congenital and acquired heart disease.
